Center Guide System

GENERAL
The center guide system consists of one center guide and two "L" glides.
The center guide system is normally used in case construction where drawer
supporting members (drawer bars) form an open framework.

CENTER GUIDE
The purpose of the center guide is to provide a smooth-gliding track for
the drawer. If a recessed drawer front is used, the center guide and "L"
glides must be located behind the front edge of the horizontal support bar
by at least the thickness of the drawer front. The front end of the center
guide may be used as a drawer stop for recessed drawers by locating the
guide the desired distance behind the front edge of the horizontal support
bar.

The center guide is attached to a solid panel between the drawers (dust
shield) or to a wood member attached to the horizontal support bar and the
rear of the cabinet. The center guide is centered in the drawer opening.
(See dimension D.)

The center guide is fastened to the wood supporting member with #8 trusshead
sheetmetal screws. The rear holes in the center guide are slotted to provide
adjustment. Install the front screw first, and tighten securely. Install
the remaining two screws one-half turn from the tight position and insert
the drawer to self-align the center guide. Remove the drawer and tighten
the two screws.

"L" GLIDES
Minimum cabinet dimensions and "L" glide locations are shown in the table
below. "L" glide location in the opening and the distance between "L"
glides are both critical.

Accurate "L" glide location within each opening will align every drawer
with the drawers above or below. (See dimension E below.) Locating drawer
fronts on drawers with a fixture prior to attachment permits all drawers
to match location with each other when installed in the case. This makes
the drawers interchangeable in the case.

The "L" glides should be located at least 1/2" behind the front edge of
the horizontal support bar. The holes for the "L" glide are either bored
into the horizontal support bar under each drawer or into a solid panel
(dust shield) which is between each drawer. After the "L" glides are positioned
in the holes, staple the glides to the bar to prevent rotation.

MISCELLANEOUS
Tipping of the drawer (dropping of the front of the drawer in the open
position) can be controlled by using a center bar located directly above
the drawer so that the raised button on the drawer back slides along
the bar as the drawer is opened. Another method is to use one or two
bars located over the flanged top edge on the side of the drawer.

To aid the ease of sliding, coat the "L" glides, the center gripper section,
and the tipper button with silicone spray.
